Zinc-air hearing-aid batteries

PR zinc-air hearing-aid cells are 1.4 V primary cells activated by exposure to air. Retail size numbers 10, 13, 312 and 675 map to distinct physical families.

Activation changes the workflow

Removing the tab admits air. Performance depends on activation and use conditions, so storage and handling differ from sealed alkaline or silver-oxide cells.

Colour is not identity

Tab colours can help shoppers but are not a technical equivalence proof. Verify PR or numeric size and dimensions.

Four sizes, two naming systems

The supported families map PR70 to size 10, PR48 to size 13, PR41 to size 312 and PR44 to size 675. Their diameters and heights differ, and the retail numbers do not form a simple dimensional sequence.

Resolve the printed PR or size marking before opening the package. A colour convention can help recognition but is not a substitute for the technical code.

Air activation changes handling

Removing the tab allows air into the cell. Performance depends on activation and use conditions, so a capacity or runtime promise cannot be transferred universally between brands and devices.

Do not remove a tab merely to test fit, and do not recharge a zinc-air primary cell. Follow the hearing-aid manufacturer’s exact size requirement.

Same-size cross-chemistry examples

PR41/312 shares a 7.9 × 3.6 mm envelope with LR41, SR41SW/384 and SR41W/392. PR44/675 shares 11.6 × 5.4 mm dimensions with LR44 and both SR44 drain classes. Its 1.4 V air-activated chemistry keeps it separate.
