Evidence hierarchy
Current manufacturer datasheets and selection guides are preferred for identity, dimensions, nominal voltage, chemistry and drain designation. Official government and public-safety authorities control emergency routes. Retailer tables may identify a question, but do not become the factual source.
Every supported claim records publisher, document title, URL, location, checked date, reviewer confidence and reuse restriction. Conflicting facts remain unresolved until a reviewer can compare current primary documents.
Canonical-family rule
Evidence-backed aliases such as LR44, A76 and AG13 resolve to one canonical record. They do not receive separate indexable pages. Another family is evaluated as a relationship, not silently added as an alias.
Four relationship classes
- Exact equivalent: both codes resolve to the same canonical family.
- Conditional substitute: the physical envelope may match and the electrical family may agree, but a W/SW drain designation differs and the device requirement must control.
- Same size, different electrical family: dimensions match, but chemistry or nominal voltage differs. Fit alone does not establish substitution.
- Not equivalent: a material physical or electrical mismatch, including a different height, prevents a defensible substitution claim.
Review, dates and corrections
A checked date changes after factual verification, not a cosmetic edit. Sources are reviewed on the maintenance cycle and sooner after a material correction. A correction should identify the page, disputed field, primary source and date checked.

Conflicts, confidence and exclusions
High confidence means the canonical identity and core specification are supported by a current manufacturer datasheet or selection guide, with corroboration where available. Medium confidence is reserved for a claim with a narrower or less direct primary route; it is never silently promoted to High.
When current primary sources disagree, the disputed field is not converted into an equivalence claim. The reviewer records the conflict and seeks a newer product-specific document. Obsolete, regional, rechargeable, industrial-pack and unsupported retailer-only codes are deliberately excluded from the public canonical catalogue until their identity and specifications can be defended.
